Microsoft Details Xbox One?s Reputation System

Microsoft has shared a few details about the new Xbox Live reputation system that will be introduced with the launch of Xbox One.

Xbox Live program manager Micheal Dunn revealed that the new process will move away from the survey-based system used on Xbox 360. Users will still be able to block or mute players, but now users will be issued a score based on the frequency with which they are ignored.

?If you don?t want to play with cheats or jerks, you shouldn?t have to. Our new reputation model helps expose people that aren?t fun to be around and creates real consequences for trouble-makers that harass our good players,? said Dunn.

?The new model will take all of the feedback from a player?s online flow, put it in the system with a crazy algorithm we created and validated with an MSR PhD to make sure things are fair for everyone.?

A user?s score will determine which of three categories they fall into. Green is a good player, yellow is for those who need improvement, and red are to be avoided. Players will be warned if they are in danger of slipping from green status.

?Looking at someone?s gamer card you?ll be able to quickly see their reputation. And, your reputation score is ultimately up to you,? Dunn adds. ?The algorithm is looking to identify players that are repeatedly disruptive on Xbox Live. We?ll identify those players with a lower reputation score and in the worse cases they will earn the ?Avoid Me? reputation.

?The algorithm is sophisticated and won?t penalize you for a few bad reports,? he stressed. ?Even good players might receive a few player feedback reports each month and that is OK. The algorithm weighs the data collected so if a dozen people suddenly reporting a single user, the system will look at a variety of factors before docking their reputation.?

Chevron second-quarter earnings drop on cheaper oil, maintenance

(Reuters) - Chevron Corp (CVX.N) posted a larger-than-expected decline in quarterly profit on Friday as a fall in oil prices knocked oil and gas production earnings and its U.S. refining unit slowly recovered from a refinery fire a year ago.

Second-quarter net income fell 26 percent to $5.37 billion, or $2.77 per share, from $7.21 billion, or $3.66 per share, a year earlier. Analysts, on average, expected $2.96 per share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

Chevron, the second-largest U.S. oil company produced 2.58 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, down from 2.62 million bpd a year earlier. The company is targeting 2.65 million bpd for this year, and growth of 25 percent in output by 2017.

In the second quarter, Chevron's exploration and production earnings from outside the United States fell 10 percent to $3.87 billion, with operating expenses higher and the average sale price for liquids down to $94 per barrel, from $99 a year before.

U.S. earnings from refining and marketing declined more than 83 percent, with refinery crude input falling by 114,000 barrels per day to 814,000 bpd, mainly due to the fire at its Richmond, California, plant last August. The damaged unit there started up in April.

Chevron shares fell 1 percent to $125.06 in pre-market trading on Friday.

Gov. Bob McDonnell says Daughter Returned Wedding Gift

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) ? Gov. Bob McDonnell said Wednesday that his daughter Cailin has returned the $15,000 check she received for her wedding from Jonnie Williams, a major McDonnell campaign donor and head of a nutritional supplements manufacturer who gave the first family thousands of dollars in gifts.

Now the subject of federal and state investigations into his relationship Williams, McDonnell announced on his hourlong monthly show on Washington's WTOP radio that he is working with his private legal team to return all gifts still in his family's possession to Williams.

Legendary Baseball Writer Peter Gammons Launches New Website Today

Hall of Fame baseball writer Peter Gammons launched his new baseball website, GammonsDaily.com, in partnership with Boston based TruMedia Networks today.

TruMedia's analytics tools are licensed by many professional sports teams and media properties, including ESPN.

"I've always had a tremendous respect for Peter and his work so we jumped at the opportunity to partner with Peter and launch GammonsDaily.com," says Rafe Anderson, TruMedia's CEO.

Unlike Bill Simmons' Grantland and Peter King's MMQB, which are financed by ESPN and Sports Illustrated, respectably, GammonsDaily will rely primarily on a crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo. ?According to TruMedia's press release, the campaign will further raise money for site development, marketing and talent acquisition.

The site's content, according to Anderson, promises to be different than what is featured on other baseball analytical websites such as FanGraphs and Baseball Prospectus.

"The analysis will go well beyond traditional statistical analysis," says Anderson. ?"TruMedia powers a suite of proprietary analytics tools that leverage next generation data ... these tools enable TruMedia and it's licenses to more effectively examine a player's 'digital DNA' and subsequently provide more in-depth analysis."

Level 1 cricket coaching course | Sports News

The SWD Cricket coaching department will be running a Level 1 coaching course for all coaches who wish to further their coaching development at the Recreation Ground on the 13 August.

Aspirant coaches must meet the following requirements as stipulated by Cricket South Africa:

1. Be 18 years or older.
2. Coaches must be actively coaching a team at present or be a registered member at a club affiliated to the SWD Cricket Board.
3. Coaches must register with the Coaching Forum in their region (details available from the SWD Offices).
4. Coaches must pass the pre-course assignment in order to qualify for the course.

The course details are:
Evening sessions on 13, 14, 20 and 22 August from 17:30-20:30. Afternoon of 16 August from 15:00-18:00.
Tuesday 13 August 18:00 ? Level 1 theory exams.

Practical assessments of coaches ? dates to be arranged with individual coaches after the theory exams has been written.

Coaches must attend ALL sessions in order to sit the exams.
