Last night I went with my sister to check out the new film Friends With Kids!
What I Thought of Friends With Kids:
Friends With Kids is Perfectly Real and Absolutely Hilarious! Friends With Kids shows the lives of a group of close knit friends and how having children has changed their lives, relationships and friendships. Best friends and single Julie and Jason watch their friends as parenthood turns them into ?crazy people? that never have the time anymore. While both want children, they do not want to fall into the same parenthood trap their friends have. So, they decide to have a child together without the stress of marriage ? can it work?
The movie follows the friends couples through the years of babyhood, toddler years and early childhood and how it has affected their marriages while they take an unorthodox approach to parenting as friends while dating other people. Everything starts to go haywire as each of the couples starts a more serious relationship with other people and the inevitable jealousy and resentment begins between the friends. I loved Maya Rudolph?s character Leslie and her husband Alex (Chris O?Dowd), it was a great display of how a couple gets through the challenges, stays in love and somehow keeps romance alive (when there is the time, ha!). On the other spectrum it also shows how it can tear a relationship apart.
Parenting is challenging, messy and stressful and there were many moments in the film watching the married couples that were very relatable to me as a wife and new parent. It goes beyond the parenting challenges of the typical dirty diapers and sleep deprivation and gives a humorous yet dramatic story of how parenting affects the 3 couples. It is a perfect dramady for parents, the cast is hilarious and I had lots of laugh out loud moments.
Friends With Kids is in?theaters?nationwide Friday, ?March 9th!
Movie Info:
Friends With Kids is a daring and poignant ensemble comedy about a close-knit circle of friends at that moment in life when children arrive and everything changes. The last two singles in the group observe the effect that kids have had on their friends? relationships and wonder if there?s a better way. They decide to have a kid together ? and date other people.
Jennifer Westfeldt wrote, directed, and stars in the romantic comedy Friends with Kids. She plays Julie, a Manhattanite whose biological clock is about to run out, so she convinces her longtime platonic best friend, Jason (Adam Scott) to father a child with her. They seem to have a much easier time juggling the responsibilities of new parenthood without the complication of being in a relationship with each other, which is in contrast to the two couples they are closest to. As their friends? marriages implode, Julie and Jason?s happy equilibrium topples over as well when he falls for a hot young artist (Megan Fox) and she begins dating a successful businessman (Edward Burns).
There are big laughs and unexpected emotional truths as this unconventional ?experiment? leads everyone in the group to question the nature of friendship, family and, finally, true love.
