Harvey Norman has just announced a mobile version of its website to let consumers shop wherever they are.
This browser based application is available at www.harveynorman.com.au and lets customers find their local store, check product availability, browse promotions, read reviews and of course buy products for delivery or to pick-up in-store. The site can be accessed via Android and iOS devices.
Tech Trader spoke to Harvey Norman general manager of digital, Gary Wheelhouse to discuss the release and how the retailer is performing in the online space.
?We understand that customers are not just sitting in front of their computers,? he said.??Because we are so mobile and so busy, technology is with us wherever we go. Mobiles will easily outstrip what people are doing in their home with their laptops etc.?
Harvey Norman is only relatively new to the online shopping space, but Wheelhouse emphasised that feedback from customers has been promising.
?We continue to make improvements to our online offering. Because the majority of what we do online is in-house, with delivery and products etc, we can be very agile and react to change quickly,? he said.??When it comes to retail, the ability to react quickly is a must because things change so often.?
Wheelhouse said that ?click-and-collect? shopping has proven to be hugely popular for the retailer.
?The option to pick-up in-store has proven to be very popular with consumers, especially when it comes to technology products,? he said.??The fact of the matter is that most towns probably have a Harvey Norman store only a short drive away and it is easy to pop in and pick up a product.?
While there are a lot of online shopping websites around, Wheelhouse is confident Harvey Norman has a unique approach.
?Lets look at what everybody is doing but at the same time understand that we have some real strengths to offer something unique,? he said.??We have great franchisees in-store all around Australia who are really invested in the community and offer great localised service through online and also leverage this with a great bricks and mortar location too, that?s a win-win situation.?
Gaming has been one of the surprise hits for the retailer online and Wheelhouse credits this to an increase in digital marketing.
?Since launching online we have done quite a few gaming promotions, because of this the gaming category has performed extremely well for us online. In fact, any technology product that we have promoted online has gone particularly well,? he said.??This proves to us that we must continue to work on our digital marketing. One of the things we need to make sure f now that we are online is to make sure that we are talking to digital customers about digital products in a digital environment.?
