Tempe Ranked Second-Worst College Town in America (By Online Education Peddlers)

?According to a new survey, Tempe, the home of Arizona State University's largest campus, is the second-worst college town in America -- worse even than places like Waco, Texas, Ruston, Louisiana, and Poughkeepsie, New York.

However, the survey was conducted by a group urging people to get an online education, rather than a traditional, booze-filled campus experience.

In its list of the worst college towns in the country, the website AccreditedOnlineColleges explains that "these college campuses are so bad that they might even convince you to apply to an online college or visit universities in larger, urban centers."

Regardless of the survey's apparent agenda, below is what it had to say about Sun Devil-ville:

Tempe earned some votes as being the worst college town in the PAC-10 and is also a bemoaned town on city-data.com. Called "a suburb with a stadium," Tempe is home to the largest Arizona State University campus, but has about 170,000 residents, 3/4 of whom are white. And let's face it: Arizona itself hasn't had a very good year in the news itself.

The only college town the group finds to be worse than Tempe is Muncie, Indiana -- the home of Ball State University.

Tempe has its issues in the public safety department -- two students were randomly murdered (in two separate incidents) near the ASU campus in 2010. Another student drowned in Tempe Town Lake last year, and even the mayor's son was assaulted during a late-night climb up A-Mountain (so he says).

Safety aside, the fun and sun (and booze) Tempe has to offer can't possibly be worse than the cons of other college towns ranked lower on AOC's list -- for example, Terre Haute, Indiana, Storrs, Connecticut, and Fargo, North Dakota.
