2 charged in Seattle plot detained pending trial (AP)

SEATTLE ? Two men accused of plotting to attack a Seattle military recruiting station have been ordered to remain in custody pending their trials, after neither contested their detentions during hearings Wednesday.

Abu Khalid Abdul-Latif, also known as Joseph Anthony Davis, and Walli Mujahidh, also known as Frederick Domingue Jr., each face up to life in prison. Inspired in part by the massacre at Fort Hood, Texas, and the ongoing prosecutions of Washington state-based soldiers for the deaths of three Afghan civilians, they planned the attack for weeks and fantasized about the media attention they'd receive, according to a federal complaint.

The two were arrested June 22 in an FBI sting after they arrived at a warehouse garage to pick up machine guns to use in the attack, authorities said. Investigators said they learned of the plot when someone Abdul-Latif recruited to obtain weapons turned to Seattle police and then acted as a paid confidential informant as the plot developed.

Abdul-Latif's wife, Binta Moussa-Davis, sat in the courtroom Wednesday wearing a black hijab with a face veil, crying audibly as she gazed toward him. She declined to speak with reporters afterward.

Abdul-Latif's federal public defender, Jennifer Wellman, did not oppose the government's motion to detain him pending trial and acknowledged the security concerns the case poses. But she did object to the conditions under which her client has been able to speak with his lawyers at the Federal Detention Center south of Seattle ? through a glass partition rather than in a private room ? and said she wasn't sure how confidential those conversations were.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Todd Greenberg said he would urge the detention center to speed up arrangements that would allow them to meet privately.

Mujahidh's attorney, Lee Covell, declined to comment after his client's hearing.

The recruiting station, the Military Entrance Processing Station on East Marginal Way in Seattle, is adjacent to a daycare inside a building called Federal Center South. Recruits for all military branches are screened and processed there.

The pair initially planned an attack on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, but later shifted to what they considered an easier target, the complaint said.

Abdul-Latif, 33, has a criminal record and a troubled family past, and allegations that he plotted a terrorist attack surprised those who knew him. But he appears to have posted several videos on YouTube expressing sympathy for al-Qaida's leader in Yemen and excitement about a radical interpretation of Islam.

Abdul-Latif's videos strayed on a range of topics ? from U.S. politics to Muslim doctrine to the British royal wedding. He praises fighters in the videos, asking for blessings for those who struggle for the cause of Allah. And, at some points, he calls for action.

"We must establish jihad," Abdul-Latif said in a video posted in May. "I don't care what anybody says about that: You can turn me in to the FBI or whatever. We need to establish jihad with the tongue, with the heart and with the hand."

The Associated Press could not independently confirm the YouTube account was Abdul-Latif's, but the name and age posted on the account match him, and the videos appear to depict him.

The pair is charged with conspiracy to murder officers and employees of the United States, conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction, and possession of firearms in furtherance of crimes of violence. Abdul-Latif is also charged with two counts of illegal possession of firearms.

Google goes social with Facebook rival (AFP)

WASHINGTON (AFP) ? Google, the king of Internet search but a bust on the social front, has launched its rival to Facebook, a social networking service called Google+.

"Online sharing is awkward. Even broken. And we aim to fix it," Google's senior vice president for engineering Vic Gundotra said in a blog post about the long-awaited social networking initiative from the Internet giant.

Unveiling Google+, Gundotra stressed the ability it gives users to separate online friends and family into different "Circles," or networks, and to share information only with members of a particular circle.

"We'd like to bring the nuance and richness of real-life sharing to software," he said. "We want to make Google better by including you, your relationships and your interests."

One of the criticisms of Facebook is that updates are shared with all of one's friends unless a user has gone through a relatively complicated process to create separate Facebook Groups.

"Not all relationships are created equal," Gundotra said. "So in life we share one thing with college buddies, another with parents, and almost nothing with our boss.

"The problem is that today's online services turn friendship into fast food -- wrapping everyone in 'friend' paper -- and sharing really suffers," he said.

Google+, located at plus.google.com, is currently being tested by a small number of people or is available by invitation only.

But Google said in a message on the site that it "won't be long before the Google+ project is ready for everyone."

Google unveiled several new tools integrated into Google+, including "Hangouts," which allows for video chatting among friends, "Mobile" for location-sharing and "Huddle" for group text messaging.

Photos and video can be uploaded and shared among Circles using a feature known as "Instant Upload," while an online sharing engine called "Sparks" delivers content from the Web into a user's feed.

Google dominates Internet search but the Mountain View, California, company has failed to make inroads on the social networking front, where Facebook has accumulated nearly 700 million users and Twitter around 200 million.

Former Google chief executive Eric Schmidt, speaking at the AllThingsD technology conference last month, took responsibility for the company missing the wave when it came to making services social, saying "I screwed up."

Google's last major foray into social networking -- Google Buzz, launched in February 2010 -- spawned a slew of privacy complaints and led to a slap on the wrist from the US Federal Trade Commission.

Under a settlement between the US regulator and Google announced in March, Google is required to implement a comprehensive privacy program and will be subject to independent privacy audits every two years for the next 20 years.

Google+ makes its debut as Google and Facebook wage a fierce battle over online advertising dollars and how people navigate the Internet.

Google does not send people to Facebook and vice versa, and both companies are seeking to become the chief gateway to the Internet.

In May, Facebook was left red-faced after acknowledging it had hired a prominent public relations firm to draw attention to privacy practices at Google.

Danny Sullivan, editor-in-chief of technology blog SearchEngineLand.com, said in a blog post it was "anyone's guess" as to whether Google+ would be successful.

"If you're happy using Facebook, there seems relatively little to make you want to switch over to Google Plus, at the moment," said Sullivan, who received an early glimpse of the new service from Google.

"Perhaps if there are people who want a Facebook alternative, Google's now got a core to build on for them."

A wine glass appears to have a slim or even stem less at the middle but has a wide mouth at the opening. It also has a wide bottom or foot so it?s easy to place in the table. It really looks so beautiful. It is made of crystal glasses and it is transparent so you can easily see the remaining or the amount inside the glass.

Moreover, there are common mistakes in holding these glass wines. Those that are holding them at the bowl might be given a wrong act; the glass should be held in the stem. The amount of wine in the glass should be in a half full in order not to be uncomfortable in holding it because it might be too heavy for just one hand. not only the red wine is the appropriate drink to be pour into the glass wine there many other wines to choose from.

Neurological Symptoms Definitions Alzheimer's Disease and Autism ...

Neurological Conditions are essentially healthcare difficulties or disorders that have a neurological origin, i.e. they?re precipitated as a result of impaired functions from the nerves, the neurons or the biochemical and electrical impulses that are at the core with the neurological system. Please realize that there is not an incredibly clear, universally-acknowledged way of grouping Neurological Problems but it has been established that this sort of conditions generally involve 1 or all of the following in varying combinations and intensities:

. Disorders related to muscular control and strength
. Structural disorders involving the spinal cord and the brain
. Structural disorders involving the nerves, limbs and trunk
. Conditions like epilepsy or those that involve fainting and dizziness or a compromised nation of consciousness
. Problems that affect the facial expressions, movement of bodily parts or induce lack of control on intended bodily activities

Neurological Conditions are the leading result in of serious disabilities between both, people and are recognized by healthcare sectors in most countries as a major burden on their public health budget. Two, well-known Neurological Conditions have been mentioned below:

1. Alzheimer?s Disease
Alzheimer?s Disease is a rather difficult-to-explain condition that can finest understood being a country of progressive dementia in an individual. This disorder is marked by particular changes inside brain?s functioning and its onset is also rather sudden and quiet, producing it incredibly tough to diagnose this condition just before it takes an untreatable form. Alzheimer?s disease is often wrongly accepted like a regular component of aging. However, this condition doesn?t include regular aging-related issues for example weakness with the limbs or slight tremors between the elderly. It refers to symptoms that trigger reduced mental acuity and loss of control over physical functions in a manner that is certainly much more serious than aging-related decrease in physical and mental capacity. This misconception has largely surfaced mainly because most patients of Alzheimer?s are around 50 many years of age.. Please note that this can be between the most serious varieties of neurological problems that can not be reversed or fully cured. Its symptoms can only be alleviated through regular medication and follow-up care. The biggest tool inside management of Alzheimer?s stands out as the household on the patient and the staff handling the clinical care. This is why so quite a few Alzheimer?s aid groups had been formed which seek to bring together families who have members suffering from this grave neurological condition.

2. Autism
Autism is classically defined as being a disorder inside the brain?s developmental process. This neurological condition is established by the presence of typical symptoms for example regressive social interaction and impaired communication as well as repetitive or restricted social and personal behavior among children. The onset of autism could be before the age of three, creating it extremely difficult for families to recognize the beginning of this neurological condition. Further, quite a few with the autism-suggestive symptoms tend to cure without the need of any medication, i.e. as the child ages. They?re named milder autism spectrum disorders-ASD but that is not usually the case. Many times, the child?s symptoms worsen as well as the developmental disorder takes a much more chronic form, leading to what?s known as the classical definition of autism. Autism belongs to same category of neurological difficulties just like Childhood Disintegrative Disorder and Rett Syndrome.

Business process outsourcing streamlines departmental functions by transferring ancillary activities of daily business management to an external service provider. Outsourcing is implemented primarily to reduce operational costs. Accounting, information technology and human resources are some of the functions that are typically outsourced. Some companies also transfer processes, such as content management, market research and website design and development. Although there are numerous advantages of business process outsourcing, here are some of the prominent ones.

Focus on Core Functions with Business Process Outsourcing

Borehole strikes it hot

Fossil evidence found in Newcastle borehole dig

Geology student Laura Armstrong shows the BBC's Fiona Trott some of the fossil evidence that has been found during the drilling

It is a rare sight. A giant drill, used for projects like the Chilean Miners rescue, dwarfs nearby houses in Newcastle's West End.

Making the city's borehole has been noisy, but after four months, engineers have finally found hot water thousands of metres below the earth's surface.

It is a major breakthrough in their quest to capture geothermal energy.

Scientists say this is the first deep excavation in the UK since the 1980s and one rarely seen in a city centre.

They now want to pump the water back up to the surface so that it can heat local buildings.

It is ambitious and the man behind it says it has kept him awake at night.

Prof Paul Younger, of Newcastle University, said: "It has now cost over £1m, but we're thrilled.

"This hot water could be available 24/7 because it doesn't depend on the weather. It is as cheap and as low carbon as it comes."

Engineers have also unearthed some 300 million-year-old secrets.

Laura Armstrong is one of Newcastle University's geology students who has been examining fossils that were discovered in a block of limestone over 1,000 metres below the ground.

Graphic showing layers of rock down to 2,000m

She said: "It is one of the most exciting things we've found.

"These shells and corals suggest that Newcastle was once a tropical environment, like offshore Bahamas."

The drill also went through a coal seam at 660m that nobody knew existed.

The historical and geological aspect to this project is something completely new for the drilling company involved.

Its managing director, Tom Pickering, said: "Typically, we work in the gas industry, where the results we're looking for are commercially driven.

"It's the first time we've worked with a university team. It's pretty exciting to take our skills and apply them to a green, geothermal resource."

This work has also captured the imagination of local children.

St Cuthbert's School used to stand on the site of the borehole in the 1920s. Today, year seven pupils are making a film about the project.

George Walker said he had learnt that coal was not a renewable substance, and added: "But back there at the drill, that water's renewable because its come from the core of the earth, where its really, really hot and can be used again and again."

The next step is for scientists to run tests on the sandstone, which acts as an insulator for the hot water.

If there is enough water, they say there is a good chance it could heat the university's new science building and maybe even the local shopping centre.

A domain is a name that identifies IP addresses on the internet. The domain name Yahoo.com represents about fifteen (15) IP addresses. Domain names are used to identify Web pages. For example, in the URL http://www.gohome.com/index.html, the domain name is gohome.com.

You register a domain name by registering with a domain name services registrar. The domain name industry is regulated and overseen by ICANN, which is an organization responsible for providing standards and procedures for certifying companies as domain name registrars.

Domain name registration has grown over the years. Network Solutions was the first domain name registrar to ever provide such a service. That was over ten years ago but today there are many accredited registrars. Only a domain name registrar is permitted to access and modify the master database domains that are on InterNIC servers. The fee is determined by the registrar as far as getting a domain name and some registers have special domain name packages.

Do You Really Need a Domain Name?

You use a domain name to create an identity on the World Wide Web and domain names can also be used for branding purposes, such as Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. In picking a domain name, the title shouldn?t stray far from what your company is all about. This will allow you to market your web-site as a subsidiary of your business and put your domain name on business cards and advertisements.

Once you select a domain name, you must register it with a domain name registrar. This is a task you can do easily. Many ISPs offer a complete package that includes hosting and the registering of the domain name for you. Fees probably will include a one time set-up fee for all of the backend technical work that needs to be accomplished. Then pay your service provider a monthly, semi-annual or annual fee for Web site hosting services.

Many domain registrar services have competent online tools to help you get your domain name and hosting site up and running.

New York's same-sex marriage law sets off waves of engagements (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) ? Waves of gay couples rushed on Saturday to make wedding plans that had been dreams for decades, as euphoria over New York's legalization of same-sex marriage promised to turn a traditional pride parade into an enormous roving engagement party.

In the minutes and hours after the law was passed and signed by Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo late on Friday, sparkling rings were offered and accepted and champagne corks flew to kick off wedding plans likely to add an estimated $284 million to the state's economy, according to a report by the Independent Democratic Conference.

The report estimated more than 21,000 gay and lesbian couples from New York would marry within the first three years and nearly 42,000 gay and lesbian couples from out of state would travel to New York for a "destination wedding."

"Peter, will you marry me?" asked Dan Gallagher, 46, who dropped down on one knee as he finished running through Central Park on Saturday with his partner of 14 years, Peter Shearer, an emergency medicine physician. Together they are raising a 4-year old son and thrilled to marry in their home state.

The decision to wait for a wedding in New York also was made by Walter Bridgham, 47, a manager at Macy's, and Argus Galindo, 46, a magazine subscription manager, who cheered the law's passage with a crowd outside New York City's Stonewall Inn, where a police raid in 1969 sparked the modern gay rights movement.

"It was emotional. He turned to me and we looked into each other's eyes and said, 'Yes.' We knew the question," said Bridgham.

They have been a couple for 20 years, and their ceremony is set for July 28 at New York's City Hall.

"It makes you feel like we're equal, that we can celebrate with friends in New York and not have it be, in some people's eyes, not recognized," said Tim Ford, 45, an actor engaged to marry his partner of 18 years, Michael Beltran, 44, an administrator for a law firm, in October.

"The wedding planning stress is already started," he said.

Before the ink dried on the newly signed law, they changed their Facebook status from domestic partnership to engaged, sparking a flurry of congratulations, Beltran said.

"We waited for this day for a long time. It's very emotional," he said, choking back tears.

Both men were raised Catholic and Beltran serves as a group song leader at weekly mass, but they will reluctantly not be married in the church, which fought the gay marriage bill.

"It doesn't bother me but it bothers Michael a little more," said Ford, who plans instead to be married by a friend who was ordained a minister.

Seemingly instantaneous engagements, actually planned for years but long awaiting the state's consent, were celebrated around the state, including in Albany where the proposed law was mired for days in a fight over religious exemptions.

"I feel like a first-class citizen, a first-class New Yorker, for the first time in my life," said Jim Reda of Brooklyn, outside the Senate chamber with his partner of eight years. "We will be married by the end of the year. I can't believe I'm actually saying that."

The most populous state to approve marriage equality legislation, New York is the sixth state to legalize gay nuptials, joining Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont and the District of Columbia. Civil unions were approved in Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois and New Jersey. Same sex marriage is banned in 39 states.

The victory was expected to boost crowds at Sunday's NYC Pride March, according to Britton Hogge, media director for Heritage of Pride, which organizes the annual event.

"We expect an extra 500,000 to 1 million as a result of passage," said Hogge, noting the crowd estimate for the event from police is typically about 1.5 million people.

In the past, the event was considered less a parade and more a march in an ongoing demand for equal rights and respect. But this year's victory for same sex marriage and the tsunami of marriage proposals is expected to transform the event into a movable engagement party.

"It's definitely going to change the mood. This year for sure it's just going to be a huge celebration," said Hogge.
