Cricketer Yuvraj Singh is all set to pad up and wield the bat once again after his heroic fight against cancer. He is part of the Indian squad playing the T20 match against New Zealand that starts tomorrow in Visakhapatnam. ?I don?t know how I will perform, whether I will be able to score or not, but the fact that I am playing again is itself a big achievement for me,? says Yuvi, who during his treatment in the US would often watch his matches on TV and feel frustrated. It was his passion for the game and positive attitude that kept him going through the arduous treatment.
Besides his comeback to cricket, Yuvi has also partnered with TV channel Colors to launch a show Zindagi Abhi Baaki Hai based on his sports career and battle against the dreaded disease in a three-part series of one-hour each. The money raised through sponsorships will be donated to Yuvi?s foundation Youwecan that works towards cancer awareness. Says Yuvi, ?My dream is to bring the cancer percentage and mortality rate to a minimum in India by raising awareness and urging people to go for regular check-ups, which is essential for early detection.?
The life-altering experience has changed the goals of the flamboyant cricketer, who says that before cancer all his thoughts revolved around his career, scoring runs and claiming wickets. ?Now I am just happy to breathe again and eat food normally,? smiles Yuvi, who wants to share his experience of what he went through when he was diagonised with cancer, the people who motivated him to fight the disease and his ultimate triumph.
Ask the 31-year-oldwhether he has plans of tying the knot any time soon and he confesses he hasn?t thought about it. Will he go in for a love marriage or marry a girl chosen by his mother? ?Well, my mother has to like the girl as she has to live with her,? he replies smartly.
