Holyoke hosts Latino Heritage Parade

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - It?s that time of the year when many cultures in western Massachusetts celebrate their heritage.?

Holyoke held its? 27th annual Latino Heritage Parade on Sunday. The event was sponsored by La Familia Hispana . ?

?It?s my third year here.? And I love coming because it?s our culture.? It?s a tradition for my family, I?m here with my husband and my son, Joel,? said Wanda Colon of Springfield.?

The parade continues to be a time-honored tradition for families of Latino heritage. ?Downtown Holyoke streets were filled with music and dancing early Sunday afternoon. ?

Dozens of community organizations, politicians, dance troops and even music groups entertained the crowds on High Street.?

?I love to participate, not only to sell my merchandise; but it?s nice to see how proud everyone is of their heritage,? said vendor Ramon Rivera.?

Compared to previous years, the turnout was less than expected.? But despite hot temperatures, hundreds lined a two-mile stretch for an afternoon of solidarity.? As parade goers marched to city hall for the conclusion of their 27th festive parade. ?
