Rosia Montana investment included in National Investments and Jobs Plan

Rosia Montana investment, blocked for several years because of disputes about environment protection was included by the government in the National Investments and Jobs Plan and is presented as ?an exploitation project with new environment standards?, where the benefit of the state will be 78% of what the project generates. The project will also protect the patrimony and increase the benefit of the Romanian state. Among the investments mentioned in the same category there are Rovinari thermo-power plant with a new energy group of 500 MW, where China Huadian Engineering will make an investment of 1 billion dollars, a project of 150 million euro for the gas plant at Fantenele Mures, carried out by Marubeni company in partnership with ELCEN.

A year ago, premier Ponta declared that the decision to be made by the government about Rosia Montana project supposed fulfilling three conditions- guarantees about environment protection, re-negotiations about the participation of the Romanian state and removal of political lobby and interest.

Then Ponta had accused president Traian Basescu of lobbying in favor of a private company in Rosia Montana project.

Later on, premier Ponta declared that the government wanted to postpone decisions about schist gas and Rosia Montana projects until after parliamentary elections.

The negotiations on the Rosia Montana Project will be completed by the beginning of the Parliament's session, in September, but the investments will start only if the Parliament makes a favorable decision on it, PM Victor Ponta said on Thursday.

Asked during a news conference at the Victoria Palace when the Rosia Montana Project begins, Romania's Prime Minister answered that it is the Parliament to decide if it is started.

'From the Government's standpoint, the negotiations and the draft law will be completed at the beginning of the Parliamentary session.

PM Ponta stressed that the Government took all the required measures, including those related to the environmental standards seen as unsatisfactory, at the Project's initial stage.
